Ok so I’m sure there’s been threads like this before s so sorry. I bought a new car in March and as I don’t use the toll m50 too often forgot to add it to my account. So now I have two fines of 47€ apparently (I haven’t any communication from them regarding these two) and one of €6- I have that letter.
I rang eflow and they will only cancel €81 of a fine charging me €18 for three journeys. I refused offering them the €9 I feel I should pay. Am I being stupid should I just suck it up and pay the €18.
I’ve no bother letting it spiral and going to court as I think their system should be integrated to identify when customers change car.

I think their system should be integrated to

Integrated into what, though? Shannon's records?

Why would you turn that down...

They will escalate it and you will lose.

They were been extremely generous and in no way had to scrap 90% of the fine.

Seriously it was your fault which you even state.

Ring up and pay you will be lucky if they will let you now though.

They get the info from Shannon, so it’s easy for them to realise- this person at this address has an account already-

That doesnt matter, you used the roads and didnt pay on time. Just pay the 18 and think of it as a lesson learned.

Pay the 18. Unlucky you were caught but thats life unfortunately. I got 3 months free toll out of my last car, but my new car, I had a fine for the toll before I even had my logbook back from Shannon! Did call them up though and since I had an account already and cause it was within last week, they just put it at normal fare.

OP, call them back, take the 18.

They are excellent to deal with. They will usually reduce the fines as they have done here.
I find it crazy that a person would not be agreeable to the 18 euro.

    Don't pay it!

It’s not easy at all, what about houses with multiple cars or people with multiple cars? EFlow rely on the vast majority having a little bit of self-responsibility.

You used the road, didn’t pay, and now have a (very generously-reduced) €18 fine to pay. Letting it “spiral” and going to court is madness. Considering you’re happy to pay €9, you’re willing to go to court over the extra €9. Even parking outside court for a day will probably cost the €9 not to mention lost time, etc etc.

Hi. I have just encountered a problem with eflow. 2 journeys on separate days through the toll that I genuinely forgot to pay. I did not receive any letters until this week as aparantly my address was somehow changed in the tax office by error. I called eflow and found them so unhelpful very rude on the phone saying that it doesn't matter that I didn't get the letters. I should have paid on time. I completely understand that I should have paid but it was human error and we all make mistakes. Reminders are obviously sent for a reason and I didn't receive any through no fault of my own. So now 4 weeks before Christmas they are demanding that I pay 500e!! They also refused to put me through to there supervisor when I requested this. Any ideas if I should just let this go to court?

No, do not let it go to Court, pay the fine and sort it out afterwards.

last thing you want is to be stuck with a fee for the Sheriff on top of the fine. (which you won't get back)

The Sheriff will not care if the fine is correct or not.

500 euro is pretty penal though. Just for driving on a road. I mean are they plucking these figures out of their arse? It's non payment of a toll. Not a serious crime.

I work in an area that helps people in financial difficulty. Whatever you do don't ignore this fine. Whether its right or wrong, whether the address got mixed up or not, whether you have the money or not, do NOT ignore the notice. It will only increase. Dramatically! The bigger it is the more the amount to pay, even it if is finally reduced to a settlement amount. You wont get off paying nothing.

I know you said you talked to them and found them unhelpful - but many people, including me, contacted them about forgotten tolls (ok, mine hadn't escalated to €500), and if you explain and offer to get a toll tag or video account they were very willing to discuss arrangements re the fine.

They seem to be one of the better agencies to deal with.

Call again and again. A reasonable person will know 500 euro for most is not just lying around. Some form of arrangement will have to be met.

If it's at €500, it's already with the solicitor and eFlow have washed their hands of it.

Only option is to negotiate a lower settlement figure with the solicitor. Still going to be a lot of money, but should get it down to €300 or less.

Pierse Fitzgibbon solicitors are a shower of C**nts to deal with.

Just an FYI, the tax office have nothing to do with it. Eflow get the address details from the National Drivers database in Shannon, who would only update it if the car changed ownership. If you've evidence or an acknowledgement from them that the address changed, great, otherwise you're fighting a losing battle unfortunately. Where did you here the address changed?

Did your address or the car ownership change since the journey?
