Importing from Europe

    Hi,

I'm just looking for some advice from anyone who might have experience with this sort of thing.

I'm buying a van which I intend to take around Europe in 6 months or so. (So it will be a LHD) Until then I want to work on the van and upgrade it etc. To do that I'll have to take it home here to ireland.

What's the most straightforward way of doing that? Both transport wise, and regarding taxes etc?

I was thinking of getting insured on it for a few days to drive it to a port in France, then take it by Ferry and drive it home, is that feasible?
Otherwise, is it expensive to have one shipped?

Given that it won't be on the road here in Ireland (aside from getting it from the port to the house - maybe I can tow it), can I assume there's no taxes etc to be paid on it?

Thanks in advance for any advice
