What was the purpose of the

Companies (Reconstitution of Records) Bill 1924

It required all companies in existence at the time to file their Certificate of Incorporation with the CRO, and to make a return of a questionaire.

Were CRO records burned in 1916? (probably not as this act was a bit later)

Was it due to Ireland becoming a Free State?

    Any ideas?

Public Records Office fire happened post-independence in 1922 as part of the civil war. I'd imagine they were.

It wasn't the burning of the Public Records Office, but the burning of the Customs House (on 25 May 1921) which destroyed the records of the Registrar of Companies, and necessitated this legislation.
