    Hi there
I am due to start my new job next week, I am going to contact the disability team in longford on Monday and let them know I'm just wondering will they allow me to work as I'll be doing up to 20 hours in retail, will they allow me to start and then give them what they're looking for or what will they more than likely say to me??
    Please hell! !

I'd have a read of the below...

    http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/social_welfare_payments/social_welfare_payments_and_work/disability_payments_and_work.html

"In most cases you need permission to take up rehabilitative work, voluntary work or training. This permission is sometimes called an exemption. Exemptions are always granted for a specific period of time. At the end of that period you must re-apply."

Thanks I'm due to start next week so if I ringet longford on Monday and explain my situation would you say they will give me the go ahead to work and then when I get my letter from doctor etc post it to them??

You should have had all of that done before now. Obtained permission, letter from doctor and then be ready to start.

The problem is when you are on disability you do need to get permission before commencing work, and a doctor has to sign off that you are fit and this is rehabilitative work.

If the work is not signed off as rehabilitative I believe you can be cut off disability all together instead of retaining your travel pass, and some of your benifit if you had gotten prior permission and a doctor to sign off

Just goes to show you that you shouldn’t rely on random internet strangers for benefits advice.

Sorry to derail this thread I am on disability allowance and live with my partner and daughter. I am a final year college student and have been shortlisted an internship which works out at around 25000 p/a.

If I got offered it and accepted would I still be entitled to keep my free travel pass and household benefits package. The job is around 25KM away from my home

Your DA if you are claiming for your wife and child and your wife has no income would be €115 and you would keep your free travel and HBP.
