Adding hands-free to an old car

    Hi,

I've got an old Xsara that I want to add hands free capability to if it is not overly expensive.

My current stereo does not have Bluetooth capability.

Currently I am using DriveMode app on my phone which I have installed in a cradle in the central vents.
The problem I'm having with this setup is that the volume through the handset speaker is drowned out by road noise and the radio, so unless I see the screen indicating a call/message I often do not realise it is occurring.
Also, when I go to speak, the voice to text engine in the app doesn't have a clue what I'm saying, even when I speak clearly and slowly. I think this might be a combination of ambient noise and my accent, but as is, it is useless and not used anymore.

What I think I need is a mic in front of me to pick up my voice (is noise cancellation necessary?) and the phone connected to the car speakers with override on the radio output. DriveMode should be able to detect when car is in motion and then inform me when I receive a call or message and I speak 'Answer Call' or 'Read Message' as appropriate. So in theory I should be able to keep hands on the wheel permanently. Otherwise, I'd not bother progressing with this.

What is the best and simplest way to go about this and its approximate cost? I appreciate that as this is an old car, it might be unfeasible, but better off asking first!

    Thanks.

Any of the Parrot kits would suit your needs, obviously the more expensive kits have more features. I had a 9100i kit in my last car and it worked flawlessly for 5 years (while I had the car) I left it in it when I sold the car.
