Hi all. Investing in a new smart tv in the next few weeks, paying approximately €500 for said Tv. Is it possible to download sky go and eir sports apps onto a smart tv or do I have to continue connecting a laptop via the tv and watch sports that way?

Im lost. If you/your parents have a Sky sub then you have a box (Sky Q or Sky+) which will allow you to watch all the content you are subscribed to on any TV. Likewise the Eir and BT Sports can be viewed by way of a Sky+ HD box. So I dont see why you would feel the need to use apps unless you are talking about watching content illegally and that cant be discussed here.

I live over an hour away from my parents. They are paying a monthly subscription for sky and eir. So i use sky go and eir sports apps legally due to their paying of the bills

Well strictly speaking using someone else’s account to access those apps violates their t&c’s.

But no - I don’t believe you can install those apps on any smart tv. And they are set up to stop them being streamed to a tv via chrome cast or Apple TV.

Sky’s business model is built on having a sky box. And if you want to watch their services on another big tv in your house then they want you to pay them for another box.

You can stream eir sport via Chromecast

Yeah, sorry, I didnt pick up on that point earlier.

I dont think its possible to use an app in those circumstances (Sky content) but Im not really into all the technical stuff though.

Regarding Eir / BT Sports then its a bit easier....or at least it was. Once you have a Sky+ box with a viewing card (€5 on adverts if you dont have a card ) you can use the box as a multiroom box. Once registered for free Eir & BT Sports you can go online and add the card and box details and register it as a second box on your parents account.
