Fine for failure to display.

I was stopped at a checkpoint end of Feb, tbf I had no tax.

Garda gave me 10 days to produce.

Immediately taxed the car and tried 4 separate times to produce but as I live in a very small town, the station is usually not manned.

Now I received a fine for failure to display??

Does anyone know if they will let it go as I taxed the car straight away or will I just pay the fine??

Go into the Garda station and explain, see can they do anything.

Ring and find out when it is manned then, the onus is on you to sort it out in fairness.

You are still guilty of failing to display. I would pay up and move on. Not worth the effort of fighting given the poor chances of winning.

Oh I know but why give me the opportunity to produce it in 10 days and then I can't actually produce it?

It says on the door it's manned between 10am and 1pm. I have tried multiple times and there is no one there.

Go to a different Garda station.

So ring and find out when someone will be there. You should at least get through to whatever station covers them who can tell you when someone will be in or you should be able to produce there.

You can present your tax cert at any garda station. That was explained to you when you were pulled over. They will not be impressed with this helpless "nothing I can do" approach.

No they actually told me to produce it at my own station. Snarky comments are not actually helpful

Ok this is pointless. The issue isn't that I didn't try everything. I tried ringing and calling. The question was would I need to pay the fine if I got the car taxed before it was issued

    That strikes me as unlikely.
Anyway, even if it is the case, you are still obliged to produce it. Go to another station, produce it, and then you're covered.

I did ring the station that covers them and all I'd get is "someone should be there at such a time" and when I'd go there would be noone

    What exactly is unlikely?

Id say its hard to impress them alright.

It's unlikely that you were specifically told you had to produce it at a certain station. The guard might have casually said "your local station" meaning "a convenient station." Were you asked which station you'd be going to? You might have answered that you'd go to your local one, but as it hasn't been open you have no choice but to try another one. You'll be much better off apologising for being at the wrong station than apologising for not producing the documents at all. Do it tomorrow, explain why it took so long and hope for the best.

Failure to display refers to the actual physical disc in the window of your car.

Failure to produce is failure to bring your insurance to a Garda station within 10 days.

AFAIK, there's no FCPN for failing to produce, they go straight to summons for this but you'd want to have met some asshole to summons you for that alone.

Sounds to me like you were find for not having a valid tax disc on display, which you didn't. So pay the fine which is low enough and has no penalty points as far as I remember, but others may be in a position to clarify that. It'll be written on the FCPN anyway.

You must nominate a particular station. There is nothing vague about it. You must produce within 10 days to the nominated station. No where else. There is no obligation to pick one in the locality. You could nominate Pearse Street in Dublin if you so wished.

Yes I nominated my local station

He asked where I was from, told me to produce it at the station in my town. So no he didn't casually say my local station meaning "a convenient station" he specifically named the station. His exact words were "bring it to (town name) Garda station.

    You are very ignorant.

Moderator: OP, this thread is already going all over the place because your posts are internally inconsistent. You are also being a bit rude to people who are trying to break down and understand the inconsistencies, albeit some could be more civil about it themselves.

Take this opportunity to firstly calm down and then having done so, read the document you have been sent and PM me setting out exactly what it is and what the alleged offence is, if you want to continue this thread.

Thread closed pending clarification from the OP.
