Thailand, America, Canada, or Bali...or?

    Hi all

EDIT: going in September of this year!

right... me and the OH are going away for 3 weeks to anywhere we want except that there are a few conditions! It has to be warm, relatively cheap, and where we can move around a bit/island hop/go on road trips.

We were considering Thailand but the OH has been there a few times. Happy to go back as I haven't been there but we are open to anywhere... I have friends in Oz, family in the US, friends in Canada etc. but we are thinking Thailand because in 3 weeks we might not spend a huge amount. Our budget would be roughly 2k spending money for the 3 weeks (ex. flights). We want a bit of a party night life but nothing too insane and somewhere where we can do activities during the day. Has to be relatively safe as well as we have had bad experiences in the past (not something you can foresee, mind!)

We are open to anywhere... was thinking Sri Lanka as well? Bali?

    Thanks all!

I've been to Bali twice and loved it twice. All depends on time of year you go. Long aul flight to get there

Found it to be safe but like everywhere you need to be careful. on the whole though was grand.

Some nice places like Gili Islands, Ubud etc. Nightlife is ok. Cheap booze but load of Aussie's around. Mainly geared towards them as it's their Lanzarote

We got flights for €700 each return with Emirates. Happy to DM if you wish, can recommend some nice places which won't cost the earth

Yeah, I think it'd be nice in that I could get my Aussie friends to meet us there. We like a good night life but it's not the main priority. We like moving around and staying in a place for 2-3 nights at a time and then go on and see new things.

Heard it's safe as well and will DM once we make up our mind and if Bali is on the cards. Have you been to Thailand and can compare?

Yeah was there, Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam. Thailand grand but better places to go for 3 weeks like Vietnam. Amazing place. Cambodia too

If you're planning moving every 2-3 days, I'd aim for there, especially before it goes the way of Thailand. Bali for 3 weeks be a more Ubud for 5-6 days, Gili island for 7, Legian for 5 that sort of thing

If it was me, I'd go Vietnam Cambodia. Make sure to get as many flights as possible though, big aul distances to cover

Forgot to mention Philippines, bloody amazing place too. Friendliest people in Asia, them and the Cambodians

Now I am really thinking that Bali might be too limited. Heard great things about Philippines!! I am going to go and do more research.

    Further opinions welcomed!

One vote for Vietnam, absolutely fabulous place, lots to see & do, dirt cheap & beautiful. I preferred it to Thailand & Cambodia.
Haven't been to the Philippines, but a guy I know was there. He is very well travelled, said he thought it was dangerous.

Personally I didn't have any issues in Philippines, just my experience

Vietnam you have Ho Chi Ming, Hue, Hanoi (Ha Long Bay), Da Lat, Sapa
Cambodia you have Siem Riep (Angkor Wat), Phnom Penh (killing fields)

I'd certainly go back again to either again

If it's a moving, seeing things holiday Bali isn't great. If it's sit by beach or pool with €2 beers then that's good choice
