Go for it, is what I would say.

You'll have to make sure that all gaps and nail holes are filled, as they will become a lot more prominent when painted white as opposed to varnished.

The deal wood goes a much darker colour with age and looks a bit 1970s-ish. What looks particularly bad is when a light colour filler for pine is used initially. The filler stays the same light colour, but the wood gets a lot darker.

Your colour choice, but the off-whites that are in fashion at the moment look very nice on doors and skirting boards.

We went for an off white on skirtings and doors.. love it.
Think it was called French white

Painted trim looks much better and cleaner than varnished wood. As others have mentioned use an off white and satin/eggshell finish.

We use "strong white" which is a F&B colour and is actually a really really really light grey. Pure white is very harsh looking.

Painted ours a couple of years ago. IMO the white looks a lot better. We done the stairs, skirting and saddles. The one thing I semi regret was the saddles. The white looks great when it’s freshly painted but the white gets dirty fairly quickly from people walking on it....

I'm delighted I did mine. I much prefer them to the yellow pine they were before.
