Ebay - paypal converts from sterling to euro

    I don't know if its just my account but if I order goods from mainland Euro I should paying in Euro. But what happens is I see the Euro price but when I go to pay through paypal the price is shown in sterling but converted to Euro hence I have to pay a foreign exchange fee on the transaction.
    This seems wrong to me, I've tried and checked my ebay and paypal settings, they both list Euros and I'm using either ebay.ie or ebay.de not the UK ebay but I still get hit with the conversion.
    Anyone else seeing this or have a contact number for ebay??
