all - while there can be some genuinely interesting/useful debate around potential causes, can we keep it to other threads?

RIP. Every time I go for a cycle I always worry about being passed too close, knocked off, injured etc. It really happened for this poor young lad, RIP.

This is so sad. The death of another young cyclist, so soon after the young guy from Bettystown. I think we need an annual garda report on cyclist deaths which analyses the causes, hopefully in a way that doesn't identify people, and avoids questions of blame in individual cases. There has to be important lessons to be learned.

Shocking. Only moved to Southside recently and that junction and the next nearest town are dangerous for a cyclist.

Gardai were at the junction this morning and saw them stopping a cyclist.

Cyclist collides with lorry, lorry driver was uninjured  what the fuck? Do they seriously have to add that dig at the end? (Radio bulletin this morning).

I usually take that to mean he didn't have a heart attack which then caused the accident

I think it's to empathise how cyclists come off worse in collisions with motor vehicles and the need for care?

i always assumed it's journalistic practice to state the condition of anyone involved in the accident.

Garda practice I think, journalists get their info from them dont they? Probably just standard practice in RTA's involving 2 or more parties. Does sound odd though in cases such as vehice/pedestrian or vehicle/cyclist when there is a huge disparity in ability to cause harm.

I find myself wincing whenever I read it but it's probably not going to change.

Yeah, AFAIK the root of that is AGS Press Office.

Just passed by the accident locus.

It is so sad to see such a grand display of flowers in the bright sun at the site of the accident all bearing witness to an awful tragedy.

I believe the funeral is tomorrow. May he rest in peace. Deepest condolences to his family and wider circles.
