The missus brough the car for nct today and the tester tried to pull the handbrake to the moon, resulting in him unable to release it. He called her out to try and release it herself but there was no way she would have been able to.

He then said he wouldn't do the test and she would have to call someone to help her. She lost the plot and got a supervisor. He said he would have a look and told her to wait in the waiting room. He obviously thought the tester was in the wrong because between 3 of them they took about 20 minutes but were able to release it.

They told her it would fail because they wouldn't pull the handbrake up again so wouldn't test the brakes. So off she went driving the car as normal and using the handbrake as normal with no issues!

Is there even any point in complaining?

Not really. Anyone should be able to pull and release the handbrake.
    It is a safety feature.

Have a mechanic look at it, it could be an easy fix.

Those S max handbrake are easy to pull up too much resulting in it jamming.

You could write to the Dept of Transport where Shane Ross will reply with some on the fence bull**** 6 moths later if you're lucky

Have pulled the handbrake up meself and the missus couldn't release it.
Bit weird your man engaged the handbrake and couldn't put it down again.

You didn't say what car it is but Dia1988 says SMax? Is that right?
As he says, this seems to be a fairly common issue and I can find quite a few results on google about it.
