Hi guys my father had a 09 skoda superb 2.0 tdi(140bhp),The car was running great until sunday when four of my famaily members were in it,and then suddenly smoke started coming out underthe bonnet(passanger side),they quicky jumped out and the car was engulfed within 2 minutes, lucky every one is ok,The fire brigade were called out and put out the fire,My question is would he have any claim against skoda ireland or just his insurance,As a person with a 2010 skoda superb had the exact same problem,Any info would be great,Can put up pics if needed

I'd imagine it would be tough to prove it was a fault as opposed to the fire caused by bad maintenance. An assessor/investigator might be the route to go down to see, they might be able to tell if the fire hasn't hidden the cause. But there's a cost to you for that.
    Either way, best of luck

When it was last inspected or serviced by an authorised Skoda service centre would be relevant.

Stating the obvious, a car engine involves hot metal, electrics, and fuel lines. All of which provide a recipe for a fire. You''d probably have to prove that that model had a fault known to Skoda which incread the risk of fire and which they could have remedied by a recall.

The case of the Ford Pinto is probably worth reading.

...looking to Skoda to cover a 9 year old car ?

    Not a hope.

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Not a hope, and the costs involved to try and challenge them would far exceed the market value of a 09 skoda.
