    Hi guys,
We have a 2 story house in the countryside. It has a porch and an old wooden front door. Would it be possible to change the position of the front door to the edge of the porch, remove the glass and build up brick. We would like to get a composite front door if that helps.
I have attached a picture of the porch/door at present

    Thanks

That looks to be built from aluminium box section. Would you consider just getting rid of that whole mini conservatory looking thing and just fitting a door in the wall?

Or is that what you’re asking?

Or are you asking if you can take the sliding door out and replace it with a composite door put into the existing porch?

We were thinking of putting front door where.the sliding door is now. Removing side panel and perhaps putting brick instead. Not sure if that makes sense but as you say another option is to remove the porch altogether and just replace original front door

Possible depending on your planning status.
Is this a one off and did the original planning limit the exemptions?

You may be able to build it as an exempted porch.

A regular door may have to open out if you keep the porch. Don’t think there’s enough room there to open inwards? Feck that.

Either get rid if the porch, or build a bigger one. That doesn’t look right at all.

I would go with a conservatory style porch with brick up to 2/3 feet with glass thereafter.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I agree it does look a little odd. Old wooden front door is ready to fall apart so will have to come up with a solution fairly quickly!!

Replace the wooden door with a composite one for now and come back to knocking the porch or keeping it at some stage.
