Anyone have any companies that cover me for Drone Insurance, most seem to cater for the business operator, I have a parrot drone and just want hobby flying insurance non commercial.

Might be as cheap to have commercial insurance for it.

Can't you say you're commercial and then just not have any turnover?

You have to produce your licence to fly a commercial drone for them as well as having it registered with the IAA

    Home insurance.

    Edit by Mod:
Please see the post by moderator below before assuming home insurance is adequate for the use of models. Home insurance could leave users open to consequences of risks manifesting. There are better alternatives.

The above post could mislead a reader into thinking cover of an object is the same as cover for problems caused by use of that object. They are not the same and a certain degree of thought is required.

Home insurance might cover damage or loss to an object while actually stored under lock and key in the home, but it is highly unlikely to cover such objects when away from the home.

Potential damage caused to third parties or their property makes this matter a little more like a car - it can cause damage to people or property during use, whether accidental, or due to carelessness, or any other cause. That's why drivers have a separate car insurance (even if they also have home insurance).

So for those reasons home insurance is NOT likely to cover the risks involved in flying objects, like eg a drone.

These issues have all been considered already by people who regularly use models, shoot, fish, and the clubs and associations for those pursuits have solutions in place for their members, usually at an affordable cost.

For a start you could try looking at www.maci.ie for information.

Do you have to register if it's under 1kg, such as a Mavic Pro?

No its on the IAA website where they give you the ones to register, as regards cover under home insurance forget it I asked, they will cover the drone while its in your house non flying and will not cover it while you fly it outside.
