    Hi,

I'm working here for 5 years and I was just made redundant.

It's time to go back to Portugal.

Can I claim unemployment benefits in Portugal? What do I need to do?
According to these articles I can:
    https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/work/unemployment-and-benefits/unemployment/index_en.htm
    https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/work/finding-job-abroad/transferring-unemployment-benefits/index_en.htm

And can I transfer the taxes paid here to Portugal in which concerns my pension? Or can I have a pension from Ireland and another from Portugal?
According to this article I can: https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/work/retire-abroad/state-pensions-abroad/index_en.htm

You can apply for a pro rata pension when you are 67 or 68. Depends on your current age.
You do not have to do anything now. It will be taken care of when you reach the required pension age.5 years of paid contributions would give you about 29 euros contributory pension per month if you have paid in the right PRSI stamps.

Ask your dole office if your unemployment benefits can be transfered to Portugal. I think it is possible for a limited number of weeks. They tell you all about it and fix you up.

How to find my local dole office?
How did you calculate the 29 euros amount?
    Thanks

You will need a minimum of 10 years PRSI paid to get even a minimum pension.
Welfare.ie will show you your nearest welfare office .

He can go for an EU pension. His Portuguese contributions would bring him over the 10 year mark. The Portuguese contributions count for the Irish contributory pension when it comes to reach the 10 year minimum input. However they only count for the time limit. They do not increase the value of the Irish pension.Only contributions paid in Ireland do that.

The full contributory pension under the new system requires you to pay 40 years of PRSI contributions. 20 years of those can be carers years. A maximum of 10 years can be spent time on IB or JB.
You have paid in 5 years- that means 5/40th of the required payments. That is about 29 Euros calculated on the full pension being about 243 euros at the moment.
You have to use your contributions from Portugal to reach the 10 year minimum paid contributions.
    https://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Qualifying-for-State-Pension-Contributory.aspx#q10
    See point 13.

Regarding claiming abroad - if memory serves you need be in payment here for a number of weeks, I think it's 12 weeks.
Your payment can then be transferred to another EU country for a similar period of time. Again I think it's 12 weeks max.

Your thinking of JSB not pension and you can transfer after 4 weeks and keep it for 56 days.
My mothers been getting her UK pension here in Ireland for 38 years.

To transfer your Irish prsi to Portugal to enable you to claim your unemployment benefit there you should complete the u1 application form on the welfare.ie website.

If you are already in receipt of Irish jobseekers benefit for a period of 1 month you should apply to transfer that abroad for a period of 7 8 days. To do this you should apply for a U2 form from your local Intreo office.

To apply for the Irish part of your pension, you should apply through your country of residence at age 68. The Portuguese authorities will then liase with the Irish authorities to determine how much you are due pro rata from each country.

Here says that the U1 form has been replaced by the E301 form.

Can I apply to the job seeker benefit before terminating my contract or do I have to wait for the next day after the termination?

No you can only apply for Jobseekers on the first day that you are available for work.

OP, don’t forget you can also apply for a tax refund from Revenue.

Normally when someone becomes unemployed the refund is issued on a phased basis throughout the remainder of the tax year, but if you plan on leaving the country you may be able to get in one go.

Check revenue.ie & contact them for further clarification.

Thanks, but can I do everything by going to the revenue in 1 go so I can return to Portugal next day?

So I went to the welfare and they told me to send my P45 and a U1 form to a wellfare office.

Then when in Portugal claim JSB there and they will ask the Irish welfare for my records.

    Solved
