[Electoral Register] How do you get off the Edited Register?

    Hi,

I've just decided to check my registration for the first time, and have noticed that I'm on the Edited Register, which:
contains the names and addresses of persons who have indicated that their details can be used for a purpose other than electoral use, e.g. for direct marketing use by a commercial or other organisation.

I wasn't aware I was being signed up to this, and want to get off it. But how? and is it worth looking into before the upcoming votes?

On that subject, the 'election type' for 2018-9 says Presidential rather than Referendum. is that right? I would honestly not put it past my joke of a county council to mess that up.

Presidential allows you to vote in a referendum. The types are Presidential (everything), General (for UK citizens, allows general, euro and local elections), European (EU citizens allowing euro and local) and Local (non-EU citizens with legal residency)

Contact the council directly and ask to be removed, they will explain what you need to do.

These days you won't be on the electoral register unless you intended to basically. In the old days councillors and canvassers used to register people on the flimsiest of info.

Usually it takes a few years of active non-registration to fall off; you are usually sent a freepost card to return every year or two years by the council to stay registered.

We can it therefore that you don't bother to click on the 'See explanation' link right beside the word 'Presidential'. Which would have thrown up a box indicating exactly which elections/referendums you are entitled to vote in.
