I am looking at a new laptop and am considering the Inspiron 15 5000.
The model i am thinking of getting has

    8th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-8550U Processor (8MB Cache, up to 4.0 GHz)
    8GB, DDR4, 2400MHz
    128G SSD + 1TB HDD
    AMD Radeon 530 Graphics with 4GB GDDR5

    It is currently €849

add on €86 for Microsoft® Office 365 Home or
    €60 for Microsoft® Office 365 Personal

What are people thoughts on this machine or recommend a good alternative.

It is a good machine. But you've told us nothing about what you need this machine to do. There is no 'one size fits all' laptop out there. This will be good for general tasks, perhaps some light graphic use. It has an SSD which is great for the speed of the system. All in all a good all rounder. But hard to advise without knowing more.

It will really only be for home use and nothing too taxing, Maybe some light gaming, Watching movies, general use of office, So as you mention general tasks.
Looking for machine with SSD for speed and the 1TB for storage.
Was thinking the AMD graphics would be worth it rather than integrated Graphics.

Yeah I reckon that will work just fine for your needs. Dells are good value at the minute. The graphics card really isn't up to much, it is better than nothing but not by a huge amount. Given what you've said I'm sure it would suit you fine.

An extra €50 would get you the Inspiron 15 5579.

    16GB Ram and 512gb SSD.

Is going for a touch screen (2 in 1) worth it or is it something more to go wrong.

That option is showing as 1079 for me...

I think there are 2 of them with similar specs....

There's one for 899 and another reduced to 1049 reduced from 1079 (like you said)

I'm not sure to be honest...I haven't used touch screen laptops so couldn't really say if it's worth the extra myself.

That 899 is Ex.VAT. Just caught that, I was just writing about what an amazing price that was. That page has only 2 systems listed really, with VAT and without VAT.

As for touchscreen reliability I wouldn't even worry about it. Dell have been doing touch screens for a long long time, they are a proven tech. But anyway, too expensive in this instance.

touchscreens not worth it imo unless on a very light convertible like an ms surface.

Decided to go for the purchase yesterday and went with the Inspiron 15 5000 Series - Model 5570.

    8th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-8550U Processor (8MB Cache, up to 4.0 GHz)
    8GB, DDR4, 2400MHz
    128G SSD + 1TB HDD
    AMD Radeon 530 Graphics with 4GB GDDR5

Which is the non touch screen and hopefully everything i need.

If by 'light gaming' you mean some FIFA or Football Manager it would be OK, but popular modern games wouldn't really run on that graphics card (some maybe at lowest settings/resolution at 30-40fps). It's not much better than integrated graphics.
