I finally pretended to be a flat-Earther in person.

Was having beers last night and this guy we used to know from ages ago sat down with us.. He used to be pretty chilled out but now he was just all politics and pop science, and he kept referring to novels we'd never heard of. Just a pseudo-intellectual arse dominating conversation with whatever was on his Facebook.

I've only got one friend who I like to talk to those things about it, and it's because he's really knowledgeable and talks about it because he genuinely loves it.

Anyways, this guy insulted one of the other guys so I decided to go for it.. I used to read their forums 15+ years ago and have enjoyed their rise since, but I never learned the arguments. It worked though.. My intro of "You sound like you probably believe that craic about the Earth being round." got us talking about airplanes. You could see the sheer delight that he'd finally found one in the wild and he lapped up every bullshlt thing I said.

After me defending my point for a few minutes that pilots just fly in circles by mistake and that's why it feels like we go round the world, he finally lost it and called me a stupid c*nt. I calmed him down and told him that only one pilot can fly the plane, so when they're leaning over talking to the co-pilot, they lean on the stick and that's why the plane goes in circles and we get back to where we started. If the pilot's on the right, the plane goes in circles to the left.


He finally realised what had been happening and we had a bit of a laugh about it, but he was a bit sore about it. It was a good twenty minutes of him just looking like an absolute spanner in front of the other friends there, who knew what I was doing and why I was doing it. He had insulted their intelligence, and they got to insult his gullibility.

I'm looking forward to next time.

I'm 99.99999% sure that anyone who believes the Earth is flat (other than the complete nutters of our society) does so to be some form of hipster and go against the grain of what has been said by some of the finest minds over the last couple of hundred years and instead listen to some nut in his backyard in the back arse of nowhere who also posts videos of their cultivating of certain herbal remedies.

I might be wrong though.

It's not flat. A lot of it seems to be uphill and the wind is always against you. Just try cycling a bike and you'll quickly understand.
