Just wondering if any of ye use Fertility boluss or minerals and do ye find them a good job .... if so what brand ... another cost I know but small cost compared to them not going in calf ....

Also enquiring what AI bulls are ye going for? Is there anyone here using all beef bulls for their dairy cows. Wouldnt mind doing it on mine and just buy a few in calf heifers every year.

While on the subject what heat detection aids do ye use. Used tail paint here last year but found it only average sometimes hard to see if they were fully bulling. What are peoples experiences with scratchcards... dont really want to go down the technology route as yet.

I have been using Osmond's super grazing 250 bolus on cows for the last few years. Very happy with the results. It's a massive bolus that they don't seem to cough or pass out.

I give each Suckler Cow 2 CoseiCure Bolus; they seem to work.
They last approx. 5 month in the cows.

Would you need a head scoop for the sucklers? Thought about boluses before but thoughts of losing my knuckles trying to catch heads not enticing me.

A scoop would be handy but I have none.
I put a thing into their nose with a rope attached - almost like what you would see in a Bull's nose, (I cannot think of the correct name for it) and I tie the cows head up and back. I don't have too much trouble inserting the Bolus gun.
I have a Bolus gun that takes two bolus - one bolus sits in the gun after the other.
I bought the Bolus Gun on the web from Fane Valley Co-Op, in Armagh. They were the cheapest supplier at the time.

Bolusing is job for 2 people. Put cows into crush, put their heads up, back the other cows onto te cow with raised head. Catch nose and slide gun down side of mouth.

If bolusing is something you intend doing annually, get a head scoop.
Actually, get one anyway, retagging or dehorning, for the price of them, well worth it
