Fixed Shelving

    Hi,

I have one fixed shelf in my living room between the chimney breast and the internal living room/kitchen wall that I would like to remove. It looks like the shelving is mounted to the wall inside the shelf, as there are no visible joints.

The shelf is about a foot deep and about three inches in height, and it looks like the front panel of the shelf might be removable.

Any advice on how I could remove this shelf myself, without wrecking the wall or chimney breast?

    Thanks,

    southbanker

There may be screws underneath holding the shelf onto the internal frame. that’s how any floating shelves I’ve bought are.

probably built with 2x timber screwed to the wall and then skinned in ply or mdf. all screws are filled.

all you can do is cut it in half and see what inside then

Thanks you both for the replies.

colm_mcm: I'd say it looks about that size, except there seems to be a panel on the from of it, you could picture it as being in the palm of the mans right hand in the picture you attached.

Do you think I could pry this front panel off without damaging the wall? I'd rather not cut it in half for the moment! My wife already thinks I completely suck at DIY, which is true :)
