Electrical car issue advice

    Hi all,

I bought a second hand car back in July from a main dealership and back in December I started having a lot of issues because I stupidly left an internal light on overnight and it completely drained the battery.

Got myself a brand new battery, but there have been serious electrical issues since and three garages and counting haven't been able to figure it out!

It doesn't always happen, but what happens is when I take the key out of the ignition, the dash stays lit up and 3 out of 4 windows don't work.

The last mechanic I brought it to has told me there are wires everywhere under the dash. So in order to get rid of it altogether, I want to get it sorted.

So what I'm wondering is, does anyone know a reputable mechanic who would rewire the entire thing. I feel like this is my only solution at this stage. Or any other advice would be most welcome.

Bring it to an auto electrician rather than a mechanic if you want it looked at. Rewiring the while car would hopefully be unecessary. Depends on the car make and model as well, for example certain cars are more prone to certain electrical issues and you might be able to find out more in marque specific forums.

Thanks mobfromcork, I should have said one of the garages I brought it to was a motor electrician in Dublin city based on a few reviews on boards and they said they couldn't see anything because it wasn't causing trouble when I brought it in to them.

I will give it another go though, Thanks.

I'm far more of an amateur than many of the posters on here so maybe someone else might have more detailed info or advice. What car is it?

It's a Mazda 2. One of the garages said they took out a load of wires that didn't seem to do anything or go anywhere, it's a bit of a cluster****! Thanks for your help anyway
