Item not received, ebay siding with seller

I bought something on ebay almost a month ago and I never received it. I tried to communicate with the seller but they were very unhelpful and abrupt. They said they sent it untracked but that they had proof of postage. They gave me a royal mail reference number but it wasn't a tracking number so it wasn't much use.

I waited a reasonable amount of time and still never received it so I opened a claim. Suddenly, there is now a tracking number that says it was delivered and ebay have closed the claim in the sellers favour but I have genuinely not received anything.

Is there anything I can do? And how do they suddenly have a tracking number when they told me originally it was sent untracked?

Contact eBay again and show all contact made.

Ask for proof of delivery and signature.

    Did you sign for anything?
Was it tracked to your address?

No, I haven't signed for anything recently at all.

The tracking doesn't show a delivery address. It just gives the general area and says

"Your item was delivered to your address or a neighbour on 2018-03-28."

I have appealed it to ebay and I also opened a separate paypal claim as well in case they look into it in more depth, as ebay were very quick to dismiss it. But if the tracking shows it was delivered, I don't know what they will do?

Take it up with PayPal. If you get no satisfaction there, take it up with your credit card company.

    First bit yes.

Second bit no. Unless you want to abandon Paypal for life.

Just to update, ebay didn't accept my appeal and paypal have also sided with the seller.

I know there's no way for me to prove I didn't receive it but I'm surprised they won't even look into the tracking information further. The tracking doesn't show a name or address so I'm amazed they accepted it as proof of delivery. It was delivered to someone but not to me!

I'm sort of shocked. I thought paypal were fairly buyer friendly. It was a very small amount of money so I'm not going to bother pursuing it but it's a lesson and a bit concerning that this can happen.

    Where did it ship from?

If this is only say 6wks there could be an item in transit from CN. Those routes can take 4 months due to AnPost.

It shipped from the UK with royal mail. Royal mail seem to think it was delivered and apparently that's good enough even though they don't specify where it was delivered.

As far as I can tell, the seller either wrote the wrong address on it by accident or else they could be a scammer and posted something random to any old address in my area knowing this would happen and they'd win.

I'd be inclined to believe it was an accident except that the seller has been so defensive, rude and unhelpful about it.

Be grateful that that is all you can hear if the walls are so thin.

    Is the sellers rating high?

Not anymore since I left my feedback. They only had a handful of sales before my purchase.
