Medical Card Eligibility Review

Hi all, I have received a letter stating that my medical card has been selected for an eligibility review. A few questions:

    1. The letter states that my medical card is due to expire at the end of June 2018 - but my actual medical card is valid until May 2019. Is this something that the HSE do when the card is under review? Change the date of expiry on the card?

    2. Has my card been somehow flagged - and is this why it is being reviewed and why the expiry date has changed? I haven't actually used my card in a long time.

    3. When I applied for this card, I was in receipt of SW. I am now no longer in receipt of Social Welfare, but neither do I have an income. I left SW hoping to gain employment while living off savings, but have so far failed to obtain employment. Since my medical card is now up for review and I have no income at all - how will that affect my application? Do you need to be in receipt of some kind of benefit to receive medical card. I am aware that if I fill out renewal form with absolutely no income of any kind, this will probably raise a red flag.

    4. I am now worried as when I left SW, I did not inform HSE - even though I have now read that HSE must be informed of *any*change in circumstances - even if you are worse off than you were when in receipt of SW?

With all of this in mind, should I fill out the renewal form (will I just be causing more hassle for myself by doing so?) or should I just let my medical card expire at the end of June as it probably won't be renewed anyway.

    Thanks.

Standard procedure- every card is reviewed before its expiry date.
Go ahead-you have nothing to loose.
No need for a social welfare payment. No need either to inform them about a loss of a payment. They only want to know about an increase in your income. And if your savings are under a certain limit, you will have no problems to qualify again for the card.
