    Well worn but fine. Looks like one was a bit loose as it’s covered in carbon.

    Those 1.6 8v spark plugs are pretty awkward to change. So they often get “forgotten” when servicing.

    What brand did you replace them with?

    Was it running ok before the plugs were changed?

    There is a special tool for removing the plug leads without damage so if this wasn’t used then it is possible that one was damaged.

    Even if they didn’t get damaged it is possible that one is faulty.

    Finally Champion spark plugs and VW engines don’t generally agree with each other so that could also be the issue. We always use NGK plugs in any petrol VW.

    Only other possible is that one of the breather pipes got disturbed when it was worked on, also to second we'd always use ngk plugs
