NCT question

    If a cars NCT was overdue by 9 months or so, if it was tested would you get 15 months of a cert?

    No you will get 3 months if the last nct was done by registration date.

    I thought if there was less than 3 months left you got a new 15 month cert?

    Pretty sure you do get the 15 month cert yes.

    Just to clarify, car NCT has expired, it’s over 10 years so it’s due every year.
    Let’s say the car expired July 2017.
    If I tested it April 2018... would I only get a 3 month cert to July?

    If so I guess if I had it tested the following day again I’d get it to July 2019?

    All hypothetical... sold a car today and it’s nearly a year out of test so was just wondering.

    If you test it less than 90 days before next due date, you will get it until consecutive due date - so answer to your question is yes.

    Example. Car is over 10 years old. Your test expired June 2017. If you present it for test now (April 2018) you will get a NCT cert valid until June 2019.

    I think you need to clarify the specific date your annual test falls due on and the date you intend putting the car through the test it on as opposed to just mentioning the months.


    For example if your test due date is the 13th of July and you were to get the car tested on the 13th of April then you would only get a cert up to the 13th of July, 2018 as there are 91 days between 13th of April and 13th of July.


    If on the other hand you were to get the car tested on or after the 14th of April then you would get a cert up to the 13th of July, 2019 as there are 90 days between 14th of April and 14th of July.

    Cheers... but does that 90 days become active every year?
    Or is it only there for cars with current/valid NCTd cars.

    No it's active even without a test but if tested outside of that you will only get just over 3 months nct.

    If tested and passed outside of the 90 day window with a valid nct you will get a 12 month test from the date the test was done
