Swords Water Main Replacement Project - Update Requested

Hi,

my name is Vincenzo Aversa and I live in Ridgewood, Swords.
Ridgewood residents were informed by Fingal County Concilior Darragh Butler that "Irish Water are investing EUR 9 million in the upgrade of the water mains in swords, this project is a permanent solution to the reoccurring bursts on the water mains. This project will deliver an average water saving of 44 million litres of water every month. From Monday 16th – 29th April traffic lights to be setup on the junction of Forest Road and Cooks Road to allow for the connection of the new water main to the existing main. Flag men will be present at peak times (7am to 10am and from 4pm to 7pm) to manually operate the signals in order to reduce traffic impacts. VMS signs will be in place to warn the public to expect delays" (Note: this is a quotation from Mr. Butler's Facebook post).

It is surely good to know that Irish Water are investing money to upgrade the water mains in Swords. However, as I remember, Forrest Road has already been closed twice in 2018, I presume for the same reasons, in the periods 10 – 18 February and 24 March – 10 April.
It would be interesting to know what works were performed at that time and why 3 weeks were not sufficient to complete the job. Are there any reports of the works executed available for public consultation?
Why is Forrest Road going to be closed again for extra two weeks? Are there any project plans available for public consultation? If not, why?
Does Irish Water estimate that the works will be completed after 29th April or you think that more work is required?

I would like to highlight to Irish Water the inconvenience that those works are causing to Swords residents, especially to those living in Ridgewood Estate. After all, it is public money that is being spent and I believe it is correct to ask for full accountancy.

I would be grateful if you could reply to my questions above

Kind Regards
Vincenzo

Hi Mairead,

thank you for your reply. Do you have any updates? Is it so complicated to check what is the project plan for the works being conducted in Swords?
I note that response rate is currently 100%, I would question the quality of the responses though. At least in this case.

Regards
Vincenzo
