Internal Applications Only

My friend contacted me a couple of weeks ago to let me know that a position I could only dream of had become available in their company and that I should apply as it was just up on all the job sites that morning too. So of course I applied.

I found out that they were having interviews this week from my friend and I was a bit confused why I didn't get called for one as I had all the qualifications and experience they were looking for. I found the HR managers email and I messaged them in a professional manner asking to confirm if the position was still available and I gave them my contact details. They contacted me to let me know they were only interviewing internal applications at the moment but if they do decide to interview external candidates they will let me know.

I know that some businesses do this, I'm just hoping they were slightly impressed with my persistence and give me an interview. A job like that is so hard to come across anywhere within an hour of my locality.

Not much to add, it's fairly normal to be honest.

If no one applies or is found, chance are they'll go external, but I would keep an eye out, they might not contact you directly to let you know. As it would be easily forgotten you contacted them. Some companies will get back to you!

Thanks so much. They only had two internal interviews, no one really applied for it internally according to my friend, so I'm hoping they might want give an interview to a couple of external people. Thanks again for your reply.

The nature of the role dictates how pushy you can be on this. For instance if this is a sales or customer problem solving role, I would say be very forward in terms of pushing your credentials and reaching out to them via linkedin etc.

I actually found the HR manager on linkedin and sent a connection request & emailed them through their email address from there this week. I was thinking that may be a way to stand out from others. I'll contact them again next week maybe and ask for an update.

5 days after their internal interviews & I heard they still haven't decided fully on anyone. Should I do a follow up email or leave it?
