Getting the car home after you buy it?

Hiya, i am a learner driver, I am looking to buy a automatic MPV, we found one we like but it's all the way up in dublin.

So say I go up on the bus/with a family member, I pay for the car, then what? how I am supposed to get the car back?

Obviously a family member can't drive the car back uninsured? even if I got insured myself on it being a learner driver I can't drive back on the motorway?

Do car dealers deliver? Or is there any kind of car delivery service in general that I could potentially hire to bring the car down? OR is it possible a family members insurance would cover them temporarily to drive it back?

Sorry, I'm clueless about this kind of thing!

    Thanks :)

If family member has their own insurance you could move it over to your new car for the day so that they can drive it back.

Depending on who you buy it off they might deliver

I bought car as present for my mother, as part of the deal the seller delivered to her door for 50 euro....

    That was a dealer

If you are buying from someone they might drop it off for you, if the deal is right of course

...or if family member has open policy they can drive it back as is.

Might be a bit obvious, but you’ve gotten a price on insurance on the new car?

Asked this very question from my insurer yesterday for a car I am planning on getting at the weekend. Once ownership has changed (signed the papers) I can't drive it. Im going to get a family member or friend with the "drive other cars with the owners permission" part on their insurance to get it back home while I sell my old car.

My understanding is the drive other cars only works if the other car is actually insured in the first place. Is it a dealer or private ? if private you could ask the seller to hold insurance for a day for you to get it home.

Depending on the policy an insured driver may be able to drive another car (with full licence obviously), usually only 3rd party insurance tho.

That was my understanding too but im gonna go with what I was told by the people supplying the insurance. Luckily enough it's only 10 minutes down the road. If I was going across the country I would just transfer my insurance for half a day.

No, that only applies to a small number of companies.
