    Hey

I want to purchase a laptop for work from home/train purposes.

Can I claim tax back on this?
will it be the VAT rate, or my own tax rate?
Do I need to wait till the end for tax year for this?
Can I purchase it through work to avoid tax completely?

I've looked through the stickys, but am still a bit unclear.

    thanks in advance

Assuming that you're an employee then the onus is on your employer to provide you with a laptop if they decide that it's necessary for you to perform your duties. Start there, because you'll have a job persuading Revenue that you are entitled to claim any tax relief on a PC that you decided to buy for yourself!

IF you are an employee , many professions are entilted to a flat rate expense which is basically where your tax rate band is increased so you pay less at 40% and more at 20% and you also receive an additional tax credit of the amount x 20%

Google revenue flat rate expense and look at the excel list

The purpose of the flat rate expense is to provide tax relief to employees who need to provide their own tools and equipment and/or uniforms etc depending on their profession

If your profession Is on the list then ring the revenue tax credit department tomorrow and ask for it to be applied

You will find a slight uplift in your take home pay then
