Hi guys, I like to plan things in advance so doing a bit of research on what I should do in terms of my next purchase......a bit of background first. I'm working abroad and wont be back until april. My family will be returning before me and will take on the family car which we still have at home meaning when I return, I'll need a car as getting to work is not as sweet as it was due to an office move.

That's the context. The key factors I need to consider are that I think I want to get an import as the car I'm interested in is better value, spec'ed and readily available in the UK. So need to factor in time for that when i'm back. Also, I'm returning end of January next year (like I said, I like to plan ahead) so I'm thinking that might not be the best time so maybe I should give it a month further into the year before looking to give the 2nd hand market a chance to stabilize?

    So these are my options:
    1. Buy a cheap car for like a couple of grand and take whatever time I need to source dream car and try and move on either as trade in here or privately.
    2. Lease a car for a month or two (is this possible and is it expensive?)
    3. Take the car travel on the chin and suck it up on two buses for however long it takes to get the dream car
The plan will also be to change the current family car so another option could also to get the new family car first as would be easier to source (family SUV 5008 or Kodiaq maybe) either here or up north (easier option than UK) and then take over the current car until I source my own. Maybe that's more sensible?

So, any opinions on which would be the better option? Any option I haven't considered?

    Thanks in advance!

The change of year in the UK doesn’t happen on the calander year like it does here.

Right, ok, that's interesting...thanks for that....so I suppose that means the flood of trade ins etc will be different to what it is here? What are the months so?

    That's what I'd do.
