Private Specialist Self-referral Query

I am presently on the Public Waiting-List to see a Specialist, so, this would / should essentially mean, 1) they have my Referral from my local G.P., 2) I'm in their system and 3) they have me on record. But I've been trying to ring up the same equivalent for the private Offices of a few of these Specialists, and what I'm being told on the other end of the Phone, - is that even with getting seen privately I still need to be referred.

But this is not adding up! There's something amiss here!! I have been referred, I am on record, I am in the system, but they seem to have difficulty grasping the concept that I've been referred already like and am on a Waiting-List, and the reason I'm asking to see about getting seen privately is because I'm on Waiting List!!

Like can I not just throw money at them to be seen privately and be on my way, or what's this nonsense they're spouting about needing a Referral. They don't seem to understand that I'm in the system already so therefore I had to have been referred by my G.P. like, (because you can't self-refer!) Soooo I'm rather baffled and confused and a bit stunned by it all, that's it all so complicated and problematic to get anywhere!! I am in the system, so I should have a right to be seen by someone! But they won't see me privately either without a Referral! (Even though the reason I'm on the Waiting-List is BECAUSE I've been referred like!!):(:(

The public and private health services are seperate.

Get another referal letter from your gp and send it to the private consultant you want to see

You got a referral for a public hospital yes .

A referral to see a specialist privately will take a separate letter from your gp

    It's really simple

It may seem like a bureucratic mess, but the public / private system works like that.

The referral letter your GP sent was to the public hospital.

The private office of thee consultant does not have this referral and the public hospital cant give it to them ( quite rightly, it's your info and they should not hand it out to anyone).

Sorry but you need to get a referral to the private consultant.

Its a completely separate institution/ organisation/ set up. They have nothing got to do with each other.
