    Hi

Seriously considering a seat ateca suv, am I mad?

    http://www.seat.com/carworlds/suv-ateca/overview.html

The 0% pcp is tempting, and it looks pretty good. Plus not having to try and sell my own car privately.

I have been looking at the fr spec, in 1.4 turbo petrol dsg. Add leather seats, and some options like heated windscreen and raised boot floor, nothing crazy. They feel good, and are sporty to drive.

But I haven't owned a seat before? What are they like to live with?

What options / spec would you keep / add?

Also I drive about 15k miles a year over short distances, so presume I will get more out of the petrol than diesel?

Husband is a sales rep and HATES his Ateca. It is noisy, rattly, squeaky, uncomfortable seats, windscreen that constantly mists up and side windows that won't demist because of the stupid way the vents are pointing. And a tiny tank so he is constantly stopping to fill up.
His is not a baseline model either so you would expect it to be a bit more comfortable.

However, you would he doing much less mileage than him so above points might not be an issue for you.

We bought diesel Ateca and have none of the issues mentioned above and we do a lot of miles. Bought as a family car and got Android auto added and heated seats.

We are no petrol heads and I came from a Golf so interior similar so easily adjusted to it and automatic handbrake.

Advise to read up on it and then do test drive and don't listen to the sales reps BS

I've been doing "desktop studies" on family SUVs in advance to taking the plunge early next year on something and to be fair, most car mags have high regard for the Ateca.....looks like a good car on paper but no substitute for doing a test drive and seeing how it feels for you....no harm in looking at alternatives like the skoda karoq and Peugeot 3008 for example maybe?

Personally i think its lovely but i only drive it an odd time. He does high mileage every week and just really doesn't like the ateca. That is only his opinion though. He had a Passat the last time.

I have a Honda CR-V and we love it. Husband says it is one of the nicest cars he has driven and he has driven a lot at this stage! Huge boot and 3 isofix points in the back was a winner for me. You may not need the 3 points but it encouraged me that at least the backseat would be big enough to "grow" with us. I had my last car (a golf) 7 years and i plan on doing the same with this car.

Go for 1.4tsi Xcellence model with phone link. You will have all the options you need - leather seats, nice alloys, nicer finish, keyless entry etc

Definitely petrol. Also look at karoq and Kodiak from Skoda. Same tech and backbone, engines etc. Might provide a different flavour for you to consider?

Test drove a few Ateca's today.

The drive is pretty good, no issues with the handling, ride quality, making progress. The cabin seemed well put together with no creaking / build concerns. Some hard plastics lower down, but the cabin is a generally nice place to be.

For spec the Excellence is better equipped inside, but the FR is better looking outside, nice steering wheel etc. I'm thinking FR and add some options like the leather seats. Electric tailgate, phone link entertainment.

I drove the diesel and petrol 150 bp versions. The diesel is loud. Petrol is quiet and smooth. Definitely set on petrol for up to 15k miles annually.

The only question is whether to get manual or auto. I did want the auto dsg, but the more I think about it, the resale would probably be better with a manual.
