Driving an 05 Corolla h/b and I think the front passenger calliper has seized. I heard a knock then the horrible scratching sound, continued the short distance to my destination crawling along as I was on a busy road.

I'm looking for a recommendation for a good indy around the D9 area that someone on here has experience with and that won't charge an arm and a leg. Is sorting something like this a big job? Will aslo need to get some work done with the suspension (constant knocking so thinking droplink/ bushing?) in a few weeks when budget allows so looking for someone reliable that I can go back to when required.

I typically only use one mechanic back home so have that culchie mindset that I'll be robbed getting work done up here :P Hopefully I'm wrong.

In Santry, I only have good things to say about MAD Motors. Keith should be able to sort you out quickly, honestly and relatively cheaply.

Ended up going to first stop in Santry just out of convenience, which I regret slightly now.

The slider on the calliper broke, and now I'm having to change all pads and the front discs. I've been shown the pads and they're worn to ****e so not doubting this is needed. Just wondering if someone could give me an opinion on cost ?

    Unseizing the calliper
    Pads all round
    Front discs
    Total €320?

I've been told to wait an hour so parts plus an hour's Labour, this seems excessive or am I wrong ?

    Sounds pretty reasonable to me.

Got yourself a good deal there. How much were you expecting to pay?

I wasn't sure tbh thats why i was asking, just after a quick look on MicksGarage and parts are about 210 so thought I'd enquire.

Anyway, I got it done anyway but the calliper has seized again since getting it fixed this afternoon which is more of an issue now. Anyone know what might be causing the sliders to break on the calliper?

Calipers that old and especially when you clearly wore the pads down to steel should be replaced.. if it was my car i would have replaced discs. Pads. And a pair of calipers. Ie both sides..
Either you need to sack your existing mechanic or else realise that basic servicing and maintenance to all vehicle's is actually required . And the price you were quoted was rock bottom

Very reasonable quote, it sounds like your a bit of a YouTube mechanic - when your at the dentist do you question the cost of their materials, look for proof and how long they take to do a filling?

An hour's labour at independent rates is also more than fair considering all of the overheads that a garage entails and the job itself

All pads and rear discs were replaced after I bought that car 9 months ago. I've serviced the car twice in that same period so I think that realisation has always been there but thanks for your contribution nonetheless.
I think I was asking a fairly reasonable question considering the previous job (Pads and a set of discs) cost me about e80 less in my own mechanic outside of Dublin 9 months ago.

So in 9 months you’ve gone through a set of pads?!

Yeah i thought this was a bit unusual myself, but I've done just over 14k km in those 9 months. Its mostly city driving so I don't know whether this wears them quicker in stop start traffic?
