I just received some new election leaflets from a current minister of state.
At the top of the leaflet is a shiny embossed harp of state.
Is it legal to use the harp for party political purposes

I was under the impression it was a protected national emblem and could only be used for government purposes.

Not for a td to tell me about their local clinic.

Is it deliberate approach to blur the lines between govt of ireland and fine Gael . Or maybe it's always happened?

Or it might just be irritation on my part about typos on a letter sent by a minister of state in education

    From the government website:

A person or company, who wishes to obtain registration of a trade mark containing a State emblem or to use a State emblem in connection with any business must first obtain consent from the Minister of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation. Any queries regarding the use of a State emblem must be directed to the Intellectual Property Unit of this Department. Application for Ministerial consent to use a State emblem may be made in writing, by telephone or by e-mail to the Intellectual Property Unit. There is no formal application form. Each request for consent will be considered in accordance with the applicable provisions of the Trade Marks Act 1996.

Thanks for that, considering this person previously served as minister for jobs enterprise and innovation (Mary Mitchell O Connor) I'm assuming she will have followed the procedures . Or maybe itonly applies if it's for commercial purposes like using in an ad

Are they election leaflets or (at least presented as if they were) letters?

Its presented as if a letter with the harp right at the top in gold and embossed.

Minister of state now in education. The letter gives details of her clinics and local issues. Like a newsletter just presented as a letter with the harp at the top
