it broke a while ago and i managed to do a repair myself using a wire hanger, however its has broke again and i cant manage to grip the part that makes the toilet flush with anything.

Do i need a new cistern? Sorry if this sounds like a silly question, im no good at DIY

Any large DIY place will have the internal mechanisms and it's not a big job to replace (probably worth watching a youtube video to get all the tips). No need to replace the cistern itself.

This will give you an idea of prices. https://www.ie.screwfix.com/bathroom-kitchen/bathroom/toilet-spares

The ones with a handle are not difficult to fix, the ones with a button on top are a pain as you cannot lift the lid off!
