cutting tarmac for deep hole

    Hi,

I'm planning to pour some concrete to later fix poles to. I want it to be as neat as possible so I'm planning to cut a 300mm x 300mm square hole into the tarmac using a con-saw, dig it 400mm down, and pour in concrete.

I do know however that it has been tarmac'd over before, so I'm thinking the consaw won't cut down far enough.

Any ideas on how I could break out the material further down? I can only think of using a crow bar or long jemmy bar. I don't really want to involve a kango.

Any thoughts from anyone thats done this?

    Thanks

    Yea.
Cut the top tarmac slightly smaller that you want the final hole, use a crowbar to break up farther down and lift out rubble by hand.
Then when your deep enough trim round the lip of the hole to full size so it’s tidy looking.
    Fill up with concrete.

Bolster and club hammer will work instead of a consaw to punch a hole through the tarmac
