Horrible Odour from Paint

Hi I'm looking for some advice please.
I painted an upstairs bedroom on Saturday and during the painting process there was an overwhelming odour almost gassy like horrible sweaty socks, not like normal paint smell. All the upstairs windows were open and I even had to open the front door. The room now stinks so badly we can't use it for sleeping.
I've tried washing the walls with bleach as I read online it could be that the paint was gone off and bacteria are causing the smell. But the smell is still as bad. Has this happened to anyone before and how did you rectify it? Thanks in advance.

yes, the paint had gone off. No, you shouldn't have used bleach, all this will do is to require further painting. The smell will dissipate as the paint cures, 10 to 14 days. If you bought it in a shop, return the paint. If it is something you had kept in storage, particularly in a place where the cold can get at it, then dispose of the remainder.

Get about 6 onions and chop them in half and put them in the room.they absorb the smell and leave window open if it’s safe to do so

Thanks I'll try that. I've had the windows open since Saturday. Do either of you know if this odour is bad for ones health to be inhaling it? That's really what my concern is.

The 'smell' ain't but paint IS. Do not sleep in a freshly painted room.
