Anyone know if leaving an item always charging is dangerous - it's for ease of use when I unplug it to use every day. I don't know if it will ruin the battery, cause overheating, etc etc

It won't be dangerous but may degrade cell life on certain devices. Depends on cell type and whether or not the charge controller is half decent.

I would not discount any danger without having full details/ specifications of the the device and the charger. Fires have been started by mobile phone chargers overheating.
