Girlfriends car is throwing up a P0140 fault code which is 02 sensor circuit no activity detected bank 1 sensor 2. I have booked the car in for test for Sunday as I am wondering is the CAT f'ed. Has anyone experience with this fault and what would you recommend me do. I'm thinking now I will just fire it into the test and see how the emissions are. Any advice welcome, I have a pit so could take out the sensor and clean it if it would be any help? Also got a bottle of Cataclean Fuel Additive and going to fire that in before the test.

Might need sensor replaced, that's probably your cheapest solution after you put fuel additive in it. Try it through the test and see how off the readings are. Is there any sign or a hole in the exhaust or noise from it to indicate there is, perhaps get under the car with engine running and someone reving it lightly to listen.

Don't think there is a hole, I have a feeling the sensor is faulty as its coming up in pending codes on my reader. I am going to lash it into the NCT anyway at this stage

Keep in mind, that engine is well known to be pure dirt and high emissions are the start of it and if confirmed, the only solution is a complete rebuild with new cat.

i agree with you there, sister had a fabia same engine and spent 1k on it and no good! Engine was worn, I don't believe the polo has gone that far yet as its not blowing any sh1te out of it yet but I will know soon enough. Don't want to go spending any money on the car if the emissions are a mile out.

I cut off my O2 sensor heater wire last month and got the same code. I suggest ye to replace a new sensor is a solution. DIY if ye have a sensor socket. As far as I heard, the CAT wont do anything on this code. Not sure for other car, but Toyota recommends to dirrect only to the sensor and/or EFI relay for this code.
