Archiving Programmes Recorded on Sky+ Box

This has probably been asked before but is there some way I can archive programmes recorded on my Sky+ box by, for example, recording these to a dvd for home use.

The reason this arises is that there is a problem with the timer and recording on my Sky box on which i have a lot of programmes recorded and the engineer says I need to replace the box with a new one but if I do so I will lose all these programmes.

Is it possible to attach an external dvd recorder to the Sky box to make a copy of such programmes? If so is there any particular type of equipment I should get?

Yeah basically you'll need a DVD recorder connected via the SCART cable.

You'll have to record in real time too, i.e. an hour long programme will take an hour to record.

And picture quality will not be optimal, obviously.

I guess it depends how badly do you want this stuff...

I don't think that there is a scart socket on the Sky box. Am I mistaken?

A DVD recorder with HDD would be a good option. You could edit the content before putting it onto DVDs.

Yes this is what I use it's a really good option if you can get one. I've had mine since around 2005 I think.

DVD recorder from SCART will be not great SD. You can get capture cards or usb connected boxes to record to a PC/laptop in HD, you would also need a HDMI splitter to get the HD.

A much better option, assuming that the fault is with the box not the disk is to get a box of the same model and swap the hard disk from your old one and you can retain all your recordings.

It is a bit fiddly with the HD boxes as a lot of the internals need removing to get at the HDD but it does work.
