You have to inform your insurer. Get it very carefully looked over too.

It would want to be pretty cheap to even consider tbh.

Cat c means repairs cost more than the value of the car. You'd want to get as much information as possible regarding what was done and why. Not just what's observed now.

    What are you looking at?

I am looking at a 2009 toyota corolla diesel. The damage is minium and easily fixed. If i get a engineers report and re register the car as road worthy i dont see why i need to inform the insurance company it was a write off when ita fixed and checked. Is there anything else i need to do to be completely legal

Firstly I hope the car is dirt cheap, almost free, because there's loads of 09 corollas around for small money.
Secondly, you have to give all material facts to your insurer. Category C is a material fact. They probably know anyway but if you don't declare it, they'll screw you to the wall if you have a claim. Your call.
I wouldn't touch an insurance write off for the small few quid you might be saving. Look elsewhere would be my advice.

If it's been classified in Ireland as a Cat C write off then surely when you go to insure it with most insurance companies it will be flagged with them as such? Don't they share data between themselves on this sort of thing?
