hi folks hope im in the right forum but just wondering if u can help

I have my virgin modem upstairs and im going to start using Virgin Home Phone line,

Im getting two cordless phones one is an answering machine, i wanted to leave the answering machine downstairs, but not plugged into the modem

What i need to know is do i have to plug the answering machine base into the Modem or can i use the single phone as the plug in phone to modem in bedroom

will the answering machine come on with no phone line going through ?

Usually no. Most models the answering unit is the base and the other one is just a charger for the 2nd phone.
