Unable to 'sign on' on signing day with Social Welfare, what should I do?

Ok, so I have my next signing day with social welfare coming up soon. But the problem is this, I also have to attend a hospital appointment with a family member the same day. I am receiving Job Seekers Allowance

    What should I do?

Send social welfare a copy of the appointment letter

Turn up the following day and go to current claims.

If you're on JA there's a chance there'll be JB signing on the Wednesday.

You'll probably get told not to miss it again but there's no big issue really.

Thank you. So basically just go in the next day (or can it be any day of that particular week)? and explain the situation, and will I be able to sign on then?

Go in the day before with the appointment letter. Will be grand.

Is there usually only morning 'signing' sessions on signing day or is it possible to go in and sign in the afternoon?

When they have rules and regulations. Not fair.

Don't go in the day before as above or you'll have to go back a second time unless they push your signing out which they won't unless its an extended stay in hospital.

If its a single day then you'll just have to go back as you can't sign before your date on SDM.

Go in the following day. In my local they'd then have you back Friday.
It's not that much to worry about really. I had a legit reason (exam 2 hours away) and got guff from the guy til he saw my name and had a bit of craic. :P Group of lads ahead of me where dicking about and discussing why they missed signing (mad session in Frank's apparently :pac: ) and I doubt they had a word said yo them.

Thanks, so if I go in the day after signing day, will I be allowed to 'sign' then?

It's a family member's hospital appointment, not my own. They also have another medical appointment the following day.

I can't attend signing on the day because we both rely on the same transport.

Any ideas on what I should do?

Some places apparently will let you sign the next day, some have another day later in the week. Just go in and ask with the letter if possible. Don't take it personally if they're awkward, I've always found the staff are either excellent, helpful and polite or they act like you're something that was stuck to their shoe, probably not much you can do about it. :P Anyway they'll be able to tell you if there's a signing facility or when it will be available.

Thanks guys. I rang Social Welfare today, and said I would n't be able to sign on' on my signing day due to attending a hospital appointment. No problem at all, can sign on two days after this, just need to supply them with an appointment letter.

Quick question, who do I give letter to when I go in to Social Welfare?

Bring it up to signing desk with you. If they can't take it from you they'll send you in right direction.

Thank you all so much for the replies. As it happened, I was able to go in for 'signing' in the afternoon.

    Many thanks :)
