Ok, so went for an interview last month, and feel I done well. I received an email today from the company stating that they were 'still interviewing' but would be in touch soon.

Does this mean I did not get the job?

It means they are hoping to find a more suitable candidate ime

It can depend on lots of factors. If it's a big company, they're hiring a few positions, or it's public sector, then they often do these things in a process - gather all the CVs, interview everyone, then make a decision, like the X-factor or something.

If it's a smaller company or it's for a single position, then it would be strange for them to still be running with the interview process two weeks after finding a suitable candidate.

As Stheno says, in that case they've made a shortlist of suitable candidates but none of them are exactly what they want, so they're still looking. At some point they'll come back to the shortlist and call people in for second rounds. I wouldn't pin your hopes on this, and I would definitely keep going to other interviews.

It means that they have more candidates to get through....in my opinion.

And then they will make their decision

I would take this as it is
There could be any number of reasons they are still interviewing - they may like others have said be hoping for a more qualified person, or it could be something innocent like the person doing the interviews has been out sick and now they are a few weeks behind where they thought they would be

Thanks. They did say that due to holidays, they were still doing interviews, suppose I'm just reading into it too much.

    Thanks :)

In a previous role I had some input into the hiring process.

what we did was inform people we didn't want very quickly string out the maybe for a long time but if someone was a definite yes they were told very quickly.

a maybe might not be told no until the actual hire completed his probationary period successfully.

Maybe they want to keep applications coming in until you are sure to start at day one? I think you're right: a good idea not to read too much into it.

Does it necessarily mean that if they keep interviewing other candidates after your interview, that you are not the candidate they are looking for?
