Keep an eye on slatted tank levels

Just a reminder to keep an eye on the level of your tanks with the late turnout. I got caught out one year and found it filled to the top when checking the drinkers. Had to move a few pens of animals around since there's only a few inches left in that shed this year.

One year I went to the top by accident, it just meant I couldn't give the shed a clean where you prod the built up dung on top down the slats. It also meant everything bubbled up quite a bit when agitated coating the gates and walls in slurry. You'll just end up with more manual work trying to clean the pens.

Just keep an eye on it, if you're stuck you can allow it to come out over the top and fill the shed a bit. It's not ideal but what other choice are you left with if you can't move them to another pen. It will create more work when it comes to cleaning the pens.

I thought everybody would periodically checked it regardless? Always done it here. Which meant we knew before Feb that we wouldn't get away til land was dry without having to move some. So we agitated it before it got any higher & got some moved to another shed. Have about 1.5 ft to work with now, so will be fine as starting move out this week.

Can fill the slats up but slats and manhole covers can start lifting

Good point , if the slurry lifts the manhole cover the cattle could end up in the tank.
Can you let them out and put them back to tag them or get a load or two out of the tank.

There aren't many inside only weanlings spread across 3 pens so fingers toes and all crossed.

I'd be checking the pens twice a day but it's only near the end of housing that I'd keep an eye on the levels. They are 9ft tanks that have been grand every year bar one but this housing period is a big problem with how long they've been in. I might have to look into getting a bit taken out in Feb to prevent this happening again but then again this is a rare occurrence of bad weather. Hopefully getting them out of that pen tomorrow and onto other slats which has about 1.5 feet too.
