    https://www.cellmapper.net/map

    TLDR what is it? :
Record where you are + what signal is like + send to server
Result is great nerdy coverage maps that are more realistic unlike some operators maps

    Requirements:
Android (preferably 4.4 or above but older will work)
    Rooted
Access to the service you want to map (4G needs to be enabled on your SIM to map 4G, a Three SIM cannot map Eir)

Why Cellmapper not OpenSignal etc? :
    • Per site data, individual sectors shown
    • Band Data
    • Carrier Aggregation Data AKA 4G+ (currently limited)
    • See which cells are mega cells and which are micro
    • Spot new test equipment before official launch
    • Often more accurate than Siteviewer
    • Up to date within a few hours, not months when it comes to MNOs and COMREG

For those using midband ("Mobile Broadband") such info can be invaluable. Pop the phone on and walk around the village/town and the property. Quickly determine theres a strong signal from the 800Mhz cell on the church but thats only 10Mhz and while the 1800Mhz site over the small hill is weaker its a much faster cell covering a small area that should be much faster. Antenna on pole, wham bam 21st century broadband.

    Desireable contributors:
    • Truckers
    • Van Drivers
    • Taximen
    • On the road salespeople etc
In the simplest terms users that can leave the phone plugged in all day and drive not just around the motorway network that gets mapped quickly but also side streets and bohereens. Thats what will really fill in the map properly.

    NB:
Not affiliated with Cellmapper team at all, just find the maps it produces very interesting
If this stuff interests you then NSG will give you a network engineering degree if you only stare at it long enough.
