lads have about half acre of a difficult hill that i just cleared of scrub, need to get some grass seed out, wonder whats the best way to do it, cant get a tractor in there so needs to be some type of hand spreader, was going to try it by hand but think its too big an area and would only end up wasting seed, any ideas?

You can buy wheeled push along spreaders for grass seed that are normally used for gardens. You could rent one from a hire shop. You can also get ones for a quad but I have never seen one.

When are you planning putting the grass seed out?

Might be a bit early yet especially on hill land? Optimum months from seeding are traditionally given as May and September but obviously if weather conditions are good you can work outside of these months.

By hand. Put down a line or even few elec stakes. Fill a bucket and away you go!

I did half an acre by hand last year and it turned out the best. Aim to cover the ground twice so that you dont miss any bits. It wont take that long.

See these hand spreaders in places which I’ve often thought would do small bits. Can get manual or battery version

ya what worries me is ive done small patches by hand before and seemed to waste loads of seed so i think for a bigger area i would end up using a few bags unnecessarily

I wonder could a fellow gunter up an attachment for the strimmer?
Something with 4 or 5 short vanes, and a delivery pipe down from a bag carried in a rucksack?

Or even simpler, how about using a leaf blower?
