1992 Toyota Corolla leak in boot.

Any ideas on this would be appreciated !

There is a water leak in the boot and we cannot locate the source. It only happens when it rains.

Standing behind car with boot open the leak seems to be seeping through a seam just above and rearward of the wheel well on the passenger side.

We checked the boot rubber seal, the inside of the light unit (perfectly dry) and just cannot track it. Could there be a leak from behind the bumper where we cannot see ?

In most cases it's perished rubber seal between light cluster and car's body where water gets into a boot. Worth checking I'd say.

Water doesn't rise much even with capillary action, take the panels off inside the boot, dust talc all around the area and then get in the boot with a torch while someone else gently sprays a hose on the car.

We think that it is solved .

We sealed around the outside of the light cluster again even though it was bone dry both inside the unit and where the cluster sits inside the boot - no difference.

We then sealed along the top of the prominence that houses the number plate light and that seems to have fixed it. Inside the boot lid itself there is a small "drainage" hole just under the same vertical line as the number plate light. We noticed that it had light rusting on it. We think that is where the leak came from.

    Thanks for your help..
