Away over Christmas/new year?

The missus would like to escape the holiday stress by going away for a week over christmas. Or maybe a week later (new year).

    - Somewhere where temperatures are 15-20°C
    - Cheap(ish)
    - Direct flight
    - Not spain or Lanzarote (that's where we'd usually go)

That's pretty much it, we don't need much culture or entertainment, just somewhere to stretch our legs a bit. Any ideas?

Florida is a bit too far and too expensive for a week for sh1ts and giggles.

Cyprus looks nice, but there are no direct flights there, or am I blind?

    Probably not over Xmas though.

OP, I think you're going to struggle with the direct flight bit to the sun at Xmas time especially if you are ruling out Spain & the canaries. Maybe Southern Portugal, although temps are likely to be closer to 15 than 20

America as mentioned is an option, another might be Dubai. If you're prepared to do one stop you are opening your options a lot more - you could look at somewhere like the Red Sea, South Africa, Maldives etc.

I usually go away 26th / 28th Dec to 1st Jan, so similar to your requirements

    Previously done:

    Benidorm

    Albufiera

    Torremilinos

Portugal probably cheapest for New Year, but dearer for Christmas

Spain often charge for New Years Eve Gala meal and some make it compulsory

Looking at Tenerife for this year

Malta is too far north for decent weather at Christmas.

We went to Gran Canaria for Christmas and the weather was perfect, 22-27 degrees :)

Couldn't really find many places that had a decent temperature and had flight that operated over the Christmas period that weren't crazy expensive.

Thinking about Tel Aviv this year, was there a few weeks ago and it's a great spot, lovely beaches, great weather, really good selection of food (eating from the local markets is perfect)

Alcohol is slightly more expensive than Ireland though, a beer was around 6-8 euros.

I second Malta, and would add Seville to the mix

Last year we went to Malaga
We had a great week weather was 20 deg ,nice during the day and cold after dark.
We stayed in the city and the Christmas lights were fab you can look them up on you tube ,
We stayed in an Air Bnb and food and drinks were well priced.
Lots of flight options from Ireland.
We would recommend it. It is not as expensive as Canary Island as the weather is not garunteed.
But even if we did not get the lovely sunshine we would have enjoyed it.

Forgot to say I went Malta this year

Colder than Portugal, but drier than some years we have done Portugal

For warmth, I would rate in this order from memory:

    Torremilinos, Albufiera, Benidorm, Malta

Nice. Will you do some diving while you are there? I went to Marsa Alam for Xmas way back in 2007. The weather was lovely but it was windier than I expected.

We where in Sharm Years ago and adored it and didn't get a chance to Dive But yes we will do it this time. Have never been to this part of the red sea plus we got our flights with Turkish Airlines for €420 each return for 10 nights and Accommodation H/B for €850... delighted love the winter Sun....
